What’s with the ads?
I don’t like seeing ads either, but as the site has grown in popularity, so have the costs of hosting. The photos that you see on Babe Vs Babe are by and large from Flickr, but they’re hosted here (it wouldn’t be fair to Flickr if I sucked up their bandwidth). The CPU resources required to run this site are fairly steep, too. I was chugging along on a cheap shared hosting account until the massive traffic generated from Digg prompted my hosting provider to shut me down. The site’s on a dedicated server now, which is nice and fast, but it’s also costing me well over $200 per month. I’m hoping the ads can help me offset some of that cost.
Flickrites have been very supportive of this site—the majority of comments I get are positive, and to date I’ve only had two people ask me to take their pictures off BVB—but, that was before the ads. I understand there may be some thorny issues with Flickrites not wanting to see their work on a site that generates revenue, no matter how big or small the site may be… and to this end, if your photo is on here and you don’t want it to be, please let me know via my Flickr profile or my contact page and I’ll remove the offending photo immediately. I’m also thinking of adding the ability for anyone to upload a picture, to expand the sphere of babes from Flickr to anything and everything. Already people have submitted URLs from their Photobucket, MySpace, Friendster, etc. so it’ll be interesting to see where that goes.
